Flathead National Forest approved a 200-acre fuels reduction project on Big Mountain that will begin immediately and may disrupt some trails at Whitefish Mountain Resort this summer—officials promise alternative routes to bypass closures.

The project aims to reduce wildfire risks while limiting environmental damage.

Kalispell biologist Franz Ingelfinger is studying elk trends in the South Fork drainage using 25 collars and aerial surveys.

Preliminary data indicate potential fire and predator impacts, and more elk will be collared to help guide informed management — aiming to improve local wildlife care.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing on the draft environmental assessment for the second phase of the Lakeside wastewater treatment project on April 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Quick Response Unit (201 Bills Rd) where public comments will be accepted until 11:59 p.m.

The DEQ is accepting public comment on phase two of the wastewater improvement project — designed to address rising wastewater needs — until April 23, when a hearing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lakeside QRU community room at 201 Bills Road.

Casa Luna, a new fine dining restaurant from the Valera family, offers Spanish and Mediterranean-inspired dishes at 1600 U.S. 93 from Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. The restaurant, which opened in December, uses local ingredients and creative tapas to bring an upscale yet relaxed dining experience (a taste of Spain in town).
