- ➤ Nonprofit Bikers Against Bullies is hosting its inaugural Biker Ball fundraiser on Saturday at Moose Lodge (2158 U.S. 2 E) in Evergreen. The event will have raffles, a silent auction, and live music to support local charities. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ The Montana Veterans’ Home will host the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. Community volunteers and students will place wreaths on graves & local veterans and leaders will share remarks as attendees enter through the south entrance. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Evergreen Fire Rescue is hosting its 15th annual luminaria display on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at dusk starting at Rose Crossing and U.S. 2 and ending at Helena Flats School (memorial luminaries sell for $5 each and are customizable to honor loved ones), with proceeds funding LED light maintenance. - ➤ Flathead County Libraries host winter art exhibits at Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls. Bigfork holds a photography reception on Dec. 11 (3-6 p.m.), Kalispell features local artist Tom Roberts and an art workshop on Dec. 15 (4-6 p.m.), and Columbia Falls shows mixed media works by Rocky Hoerner. - ➤ A data entry error left Somers Lakeside School District with a $630,460.15 gap after a tax cut was larger than planned. The board will meet Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at Somers Middle School Commons to review budget changes and set a special tax assessment for February 2026. Flathead Beacon
- ➤ Glacier and Flathead high schools clinched the top two spots in Class AA at a Western Regional Speech and Debate tournament held Dec. 5 and 6 in Kalispell, where 23 teams competed and coaches credited balanced team effort + individual wins for success. Daily Inter Lake
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glacier National Park will end the vehicle reservation system for personal vehicles in summer 2026 so visitors can enter the park anytime without a reservation. - ➤ Montana State University and University of Montana are advancing the SMART FIRES project that uses AI, optical sensors, and community surveys to study how prescribed burns affect air quality and guide fire management—gathering over 120 participants from nine local institutions in a $20 million NSF-funded effort. - ➤ Montana Department of Transportation and Sletten Construction crews are building a new 706-foot bridge on Highway 82 near Bigfork to widen lanes and add shoulders for growing traffic. The multi-phase project will finish in spring or summer 2027 along the Flathead River. KPAX
