Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 14th of November.
Good morning, Kalispell.
Residents of Spring Creek Mobile Park faced eviction last year when the park changed ownership for development and were relocated by June with help from NeighborWorks Montana and Whitefish Community Foundation—which provided up to $5,000 per household from a $45,000 Emergency Response Grant to ensure no one was left unhoused.
Tribal officials said a white-tailed deer harvested on November 3 tested positive—marking the second case of chronic wasting disease on the Flathead Indian Reservation.
Officials said the sample will be retested for confirmation—adding to a case first found in January.
Flathead County District Court will launch an Adult Drug Treatment Court by the end of 2025 with $231,000 in grant funding from the Montana Opioid Abatement Trust.
The court will offer felony drug offenders a treatment program instead of jail time (an 18- to 24-month intensive course including probation, random drug tests, and regular treatment sessions).
The Flathead County Planning Board recommended an eight-condo project on 10 acres along Somers Road that will include 28 commercial units and 18 live-work residential units served by shared wells and septic systems, scheduled to be built in three phases and completed in 2031 — board members noted the units' small size and limited parking might affect business options. The board also supported a zone change for 12.62 acres near Bigfork at 100 Gunner Lane and 2591 Montana 82 to allow an updated well and septic tank — both proposals will now go before the county commissioners.
