Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 21st of October.
Good morning, Kalispell.
📰 Economy
Due to smoky skies and a weekday airport runway closure in summer, local outfitters saw cancellations and bookings made on short notice while guests spent less and revenue remained flat compared to last year.
Hotel occupancy and park visitation, however, are trending steady as travelers favor lower cost options.
🎓 Education
Swan River School District voters approved a $1.5 million levy for essential heating, ventilation and security system upgrades at the local school.
The measure, passed on Sept. 29 with 55% support, will fund phased projects over 10 years, starting with summer 2025 replacements — ensuring reliable facilities.
🌲 Environment
Glacier National Park tracked 20 goats near Goat Lick (by U.S. 2) over two years to study how recreation affects their behavior along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.
The park will update its Comprehensive River Management plan to ban raft stops between Staircase Rapids and Split Rock.
🏛️ Government
Flathead County Commissioners delayed a vote on phase one of the final plat for Territory 1889 in Lakeside after the planning office requested more time to review water * sewer conditions until November 10.
