- ➤ Dan Johns, known as Kalispell’s Mr. Baseball, died September 3 at age 79 and spent many years coaching youth baseball and helping build local athletic fields like the Kidsports Complex and Miracle Field. - ➤ Arn’s BBQ marks five years of serving authentic Texas barbecue in the Flathead Valley and builds community through hospitality. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glacier National Park recorded over 718,000 visitors in August—a 4.1% drop from last year—and more than 2.4 million visitors so far this season, while Many Glacier showed a nearly 66% decline due to construction that has closed vehicle access until Sept. 21. Flathead Beacon
- ➤ Glacier National Park announced that Two Medicine Road will close to vehicles starting October 1 for a culvert replacement as part of a multi-year rehabilitation project. The park also will begin further utility work at Two Medicine in April 2026 and plan construction at St. Mary and Many Glacier campgrounds as well as Lake McDonald Lodge and Granite Park Chalet — details depend on weather and construction schedules. - ➤ A couple hiked the Gunsight Pass Trail in Glacier National Park as they passed Deadwood and Florence falls and crossed a suspension bridge over turquoise Gunsight Lake—starting a 13.7-mile climb with 3,000 feet of elevation gain toward Sperry Chalet. They spotted mountain goats near Feather Woman Lake and caught a ride from Bob Chinn after the park shuttles ended. Daily Inter Lake
