- ➤ RJ Devitt, who worked on Glacier Park trails for 20 years and retired earlier this year after hip replacements, received a special Park Service arrowhead — a rare honor usually given to permanent staff. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ West Glacier Elementary School lost its bus contract because insurance problems stopped Dalimata Transportation from getting the needed coverage before budget time, leaving about 10 families to drive their children to school. The school board will meet on Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss long-term transportation fixes. Flathead Beacon
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flathead County crews have collected over 11,320 pounds of trash along U.S. 93 this summer—working in two-person shifts and earning $20 per hour—with the cleanup season running from April 29 until Oct 3. County officials said strong messaging to secure loads has helped reduce debris along the highway. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Columbia Falls Aluminum Company will start more testing at the Superfund site north of Columbia Falls this fall through December — part of early cleanup work as they work with the EPA and DEQ. The tests will include soil sampling, drilling new wells, and checking old landfills while costing about $3.5 million with little impact on the community. Daily Inter Lake
