- ➤ A 13-year-old testified Tuesday that youth hockey coach Jami James sexually assaulted him twice when he was 8—once at a Butte hotel and once at his home in Flathead County. Daily Inter Lake

- ➤ Local history buff Rick Hull will present a talk on the 1908 Swan Valley Massacre, when game warden Charles Peyton attempted to arrest a hunting party near Holland Lake; his discussion will cover the events that left five dead and the enduring local debate over his actions. The presentation will take place Monday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the museum at 124 2nd Ave. East in Kalispell—tickets cost $5 for the general public while youths under 16 and members are admitted free. - ➤ Schellinger Construction self-reported muddy water from stormwater ponds spilled into Garnier Creek on Aug. 12, which led to a $15,000 fine from the Flathead Conservation District. The company said it will work with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality to restore the creek by Oct. 6—making fixes—and complete better erosion controls. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Flathead County commissioners and a local nonprofit have proposed a three-year management plan to keep more water in Little Bitterroot Lake. The plan calls for closing outflow gates from Sept. 15 to May 15 and adding a flow monitoring device at Herrig Creek — steps aimed at raising water levels to support boating and irrigation. - ➤ The Montana Supreme Court ruled that restrictive covenants in a Whitefish subdivision bar short-term vacation rentals, upholding a lower court decision against R&R Mountain Escapes—who earned $55,000 in 2022—and addressing neighbor complaints over nuisances. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Kalispell City Council met on Tuesday night to debate if the next city manager must live within city limits and decided to make the condition preferred rather than required; councilors also discussed allowing a grace period and a 20-minute drive requirement. They approved a salary range of $195,000 to $219,007 and asked GMP Consultants to update the job advertisement accordingly + aim to widen the candidate pool. Flathead Beacon
