ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Kalispell Police said on Aug. 18 at 9:17 p.m. that a motor vehicle fire at the Homewood Suites and Hotel on Hutton Ranch Road killed 60-year-old Darrin Turner — from Ohio — while they continue to investigate the cause. Flathead Beacon
- ➤ On Monday morning, a chemical reaction with chlorine forced the evacuation of Logan Health Medical Fitness Center at around 11 a.m.—all members, patients, and staff left the building as cleanup began and Logan Health worked with the Kalispell Fire Department to check its safety. KPAX
- ➤ Authorities confirmed the body of a 16-year-old boy from Kalispell—who fell off a boat at Flathead Lake near Lakeside Saturday at 1 p.m.—was found by sonar and recovered from the water on Sunday. KPAX
- ➤ Crews battled a structure fire at Spinnaker Casino Bar and Grill off U.S. Highway 93 in Lakeside on August 25th after an electrical issue sparked the blaze, and Somers Fire Chief Tom Havens said the fire was quickly contained with no injuries as additional help arrived from the South Kalispell Fire Department and Flathead Electric Cooperative. - ➤ A deputy spoke with suspect Jeffery Scott Serio moments before he allegedly struck and killed pedestrian Raymond Maurice Grigg near Birch Grove Road north of Kalispell on Aug. 19, and Serio remains in jail on $500,000 bail while facing a pending deliberate homicide charge. Daily Inter Lake

- ➤ Federal Judge Dana Christensen approved a settlement on August 25th that requires Montana to allow students with disabilities who graduated in spring without a diploma to re-enroll and complete their education up to age 22—families have 30 days to act. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 250 firefighters battled the Knowles Fire near Paradise along the Flathead River on Monday, August 25 as crews built containment lines over 3,638 acres that threatened 784 structures, with helicopters and ground teams working amid pre-evacuation orders in the McLaughlin Creek area. Crews also monitored smaller fires on nearby forest lands for any significant changes. Daily Inter Lake
