ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Glacier National Park reports that Logan Pass is experiencing low water levels as a result of high visitor consumption, and visitors may face temporary bathroom closures from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.—a measure taken as the park will turn off water on September 7 to conserve supply.  KPAX
  • The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission approved a plan to purchase a 52,930-acre easement in the Cabinet Mountains as the final phase of the Montana Great Outdoors Conservation Easement project, which gives the state rights to manage the land for wildlife and outdoor recreation. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lakeside Water and Sewer Board voted on Thursday to raise sewer rates by 61.7% so that the new monthly fee is $78.62 and noncompliant users will pay $109 starting in September—officials said this increase will pay for work on the old wastewater system. Board members added that past 5% annual increases no longer met the system’s demands—low turnout at public meetings led them to take this larger step.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Lakeside County Water and Sewer District board approved a resolution on Thursday to raise sewer fees by an average of $30 per month for ratepayers starting in September to help fund an expanded sewage treatment system north of Flathead Lake.
