ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A small plane suffered engine trouble before crashing into parked aircraft at Kalispell City Airport on Aug. 11, and the pilot and three aboard walked away with minor injuries as local firefighters controlled the blaze.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino said a single prop plane went off the runway at Ryan Field near West Glacier on July 26 and ended up upside down down an embankment—passenger numbers and their conditions remain unknown.  KPAX
  • Local musician Tyler Childers donated $500K to Blackfeet nonprofits after his benefit show last summer while a mid-air collision at a skydiving event in Marion on August 12 left one person dead—unexpected summer rains have kept Flathead Lake near full pool through the end of summer.  Daily Inter Lake

CRIME NEWS

  • Micah M. Winslow, 40, fled Kalispell police in a November 12, 2023 chase after allegedly threatening his family and law enforcement, pleaded guilty in late 2024 and received a suspended five-year sentence with 143 days served credit on January 30—with his deal approved by prosecutors.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 1,000 youth in 4H and FFA are involved in market livestock projects that teach agricultural skills, with about 300 focusing on raising hogs, steers and lambs. The Market Livestock Sale will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 8 a.m. at the Trade Center at the Flathead County Fairgrounds—youth will auction their animals as the final step in their projects.  Daily Inter Lake

  • A 33-year-old Venezuelan man filed a lawsuit against Whitefish, Police Chief Bridger Kelch and officer Michael Hingiss after a traffic stop on April 24 led to ICE custody—he claims racial profiling occurred because he spoke Spanish despite showing a valid REAL ID—seeking damages for his treatment.  Flathead Beacon
  • Kalispell City Council unanimously selected Jarod Nygren as interim city manager today — he will hold full authority while the city searches for a permanent manager over the next four to six months. The council also approved a $3500 monthly pay increase for Nygren as he shares responsibilities with outgoing manager Doug Russell, whose final day is Aug.20.  Flathead Beacon
