CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Anne Marie Hislop—accused of two counts of felony assault with a weapon following a November standoff at a Coram property—violated her release terms by returning on Aug. 2 to a Platte Road home and engaging in a fight with a relative, resulting in her arrest and a bail set at $100,000. - ➤ A Kalispell man, Michael Robert Hughley, 54, was accused of robbing a panhandler with a machete on July 17th at the intersection of Woodland Park Drive and U.S. 2 East—he pleaded guilty as part of a deal on November 7th and received a partially suspended sentence on January 9th with credit for 64 days served. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln County is set to receive $872,636 today for its 1.7 million acres of federal land—about $140,000 more than four years ago as part of the Payments in Lieu of Taxes program that helps local services, and additional funds are being allocated to Montana counties to offset lost tax revenue from federal lands. - ➤ Flathead County commissioners approved putting a $105M bond on the November ballot for a new detention center that aims to ease overcrowding and improve safety—officials say the current jail is too small and in need of constant maintenance. If the bond passes, the project will span 20 years with modest property tax increases and construction could start as early as spring, 2026. Daily Inter Lake
