  • DREAM Adaptive hosts a water sports week that gives people with disabilities and their families a chance to paddleboard, kayak, or water ski in Western Montana — the program breaks down barriers to outdoor access. Executive director Julie Tickle said participants, including Erik Barnes, gain confidence and enjoy new adventures on the water.  KPAX

CRIME NEWS

  • Daniel Edward Duffey, a 40-year-old former GOP political strategist from Billings, was convicted by a Flathead County jury for stalking a Whitefish man and on July 24 he was sentenced to one year in the county detention center followed by five years in state prison—he must also pay restitution and abide by strict no-contact rules.  Flathead Beacon
  • Libby resident Timothy Moore, 24, pleaded not guilty to an amended felony charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child after his 3-year-old son died from a gunshot wound on May 27 near Granite Creek Road — he had previously pleaded not guilty to charges including Negligent Homicide and drug-related offenses, and deputies said he was in an altered mental state when they arrived.  KPAX

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead Valley schools are facing budget cuts after a federal freeze paused about $26 million in funds for programs serving migrant students, English learners, and teacher training—Kalispell Public Schools reported a potential shortfall of about $500,000 and will adjust its budget in August if the funds remain on pause.  Flathead Beacon
