COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Entries for the 2025 Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo are open online for various competitions at the Flathead County Fairgrounds with most entries due by 4:30 p.m. on August 1. Agriculture and horticulture entries are due on August 10 and dahlias, gladiolus and floriculture entries are due the day before judging while children aged five to seven weighing no more than 55 pounds can register for the mutton bustin' event from August 14 to August 16 at the Ram PRCA Rodeo with registration available at Western Outdoor, Murdoch's or the fairgrounds office.  KPAX

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Bear Air rescued a hiker with a lower leg injury from the Bob Marshall Wilderness on July 9 when gusty winds prevented lowering the hoist—landing on a ridge allowed the team to reach and treat her before flying her to Missoula for further care.  KPAX

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead Valley Community College Library is hosting a free summer series on virtual reality and recording studio skills in Kalispell. Each week the workshops cover topics from VR games to educational apps — the sessions are open to the public and anyone under 16 must attend with an adult.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State officials confirmed that an angler caught a nonnative brown trout upstream of Pessentine Fishing Access near Evergreen in early June, marking the first sighting in over 20 years in the Flathead River system. Officials are testing water samples using environmental DNA—fearing the fish may threaten native species—while asking anglers to report any catches.  Daily Inter Lake
  • State wildlife officials detected non-native brown trout in the Flathead River upstream of the Pressentine Fishing Access Site near Evergreen this summer — FWP urges anglers to kill and report any brown trout they catch using eDNA sampling to guide future management actions.  KPAX

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence St. Joseph Medical Center began construction on a new rural health clinic in Polson as part of its Critical Access Campaign to improve health services and double patient capacity in the Flathead community. Local leaders announced the campaign has raised over $14 million so far and will reach its $31 million goal for all three projects—expecting the clinic to be completed by fall.  MontanaRightNow
