Good morning, Kalispell.

Margaret Notley, a history buff and horseback rider, was elected president of the Flathead Land Trust after serving nine years on its board, and her volunteer role will last two years.

She will work with local groups to use conservation easements to protect the lands and wildlife that draw people to the Flathead Valley + support future conservation projects.

Ryan Ellis from Coram started an aluminum recycling program when local facilities closed recycling services for businesses—he repurposed old trailers to collect cans at Park Provisions and Columbia Falls Farmers Market so nearly 1,000 pounds of aluminum can be taken to Pacific Steel in Kalispell. His work now helps many locals recycle easily and keeps the aluminum out of landfills.

Kalispell City Council is beginning the search for a new city manager today after former manager Doug Russell was named city manager of Lakewood and will start his new job on Aug.

25. The council will also vote on a conditional use permit for a downtown casino inside a steakhouse, an expansion plan for a local car dealership, revisions to police and fire impact fees, a new bargaining term for firefighters, and funding for upgrades at the city wastewater treatment plant—each set for discussion in upcoming meetings.
