The Daily Inter Lake was named Montana’s best daily newspaper for the second year after winning over 40 awards at a contest held June 21 at the Finlen Hotel in Uptown Butte — the paper was honored for its strong political reporting, digital content, design, and advertising.

Flathead Beacon was named the best online newspaper in Montana for the second year in a row at the Montana Newspaper Association’s contest held at Hotel Finlen in Butte.

The publication won 13 awards and six first-place plaques — including honors for portrait and feature photography, news video and its print magazine Flathead Living.

Going-to-the-Sun Road reopened on Monday at 10:30 a.m. after park rangers checked weather conditions—its closure on June 20 came after forecasts of heavy rain and snow increased risks of mudslides, rockfall, and icy spots along the section from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook. Visitors are urged to review updated trail status and prepare for changing weather if they travel to the park.
