- ➤ Flathead Running Company opened two months ago on Main Street in Kalispell as the valley’s only run specialty store, and owner Casey Jermyn said customers voiced 'Finally! What’s taken so long?' & expressed high hopes for the new business. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Derrick James Jackson, a 39-year-old from Bigfork, was sentenced on June 17th to 100 years in prison by Flathead County District Court for fatally shooting his mother's boyfriend at their home—his long criminal record, drug abuse and high risk of reoffending were key factors. Flathead Beacon
- ➤ A man with a violent criminal past is facing a felony charge for allegedly abusing a recently adopted cat in Eureka—he was arraigned on June 2 in Lincoln County District Court, pleaded not guilty, and is out on bail with a next court appearance set for July 7. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ During the 'No Kings' protest on June 14 in downtown Kalispell, a pedestrian-vehicle accident on Main Street injured one person and led to the arrest of five—police say the collision did not appear intentional and are reviewing video evidence. Daily Inter Lake
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glacier National Park opened its iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road for the summer season on June 16, after crews removed snow and added guard rails to improve safety (timed entry is in effect from the west entrance until Sept. 28). Visitors are cautioned to dispose of food scraps properly to avoid attracting wildlife (a risk to roadside safety). KPAX
