Good morning, Kalispell. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 15th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Seventeen-year-old Atreyu Oxford uncovered a little-known chapter of Lone Pine State Park’s Boy Scouts history—he learned the camp was donated in 1937 and featured a log lodge built by local architect Fred Brinkman that burned down in 1943. He is using his Eagle Scout project to design an interpretive sign that will be installed this summer to share the park’s history with the community.  Daily Inter Lake

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Austin Wallis and Katie Griffis took over the Northern Lights Saloon in Polebridge this summer and updated the menu — offering beef and bison burgers, pulled pork and a new Rainbow Bowl over quinoa — while planning weekly concerts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to welcome locals and visitors.  Daily Inter Lake

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Recent data from the Whitefish Lake Institute shows that water levels at Whitefish Lake have stayed low due to earlier snowmelt and climate change—city officials say that in a couple of weeks, water will be pumped from the lake to meet demand, which will raise energy costs and affect water supplies downstream.  Daily Inter Lake

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flathead County health officials are monitoring measles cases — with two confirmed in the county as of May 29 and 20 statewide as of June 10. Officials urged residents to check their vaccinations — a precaution since the illness was last seen in Montana in 1990.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Immanuel Living held a groundbreaking on May 30 for The Lofts, a 39-apartment project on its campus offering independent living for those 55 and older. The new homes, ranging from 550 to 1,725 square feet with a heated pool and skybridge, are fully reserved and will open in 2027 — providing space for about 60 residents.  Flathead Beacon
  • Flathead County’s Crisis Assistance Team visits the jail on Wednesdays to meet inmates with mental health issues and connect them to community care. The two-person teams, each with a licensed therapist and a care coordinator, now operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and have expanded their hours to lessen 911 calls — easing the gap in mental health services.  Daily Inter Lake
