- ➤ Flathead County offers free summer meals for children and teens 18 and under when school is out — sites include Kalispell and nearby areas with meals served at designated times and no registration, proof of income or ID required. Daily Inter Lake
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Joseph Shelton will talk about the life of Montana Frank McCray—a Wild West performer who worked from the 1890s to the 1950s—in a historical presentation prompted by old show posters from Bozeman Public Library. The talk will be held at 7 p.m. on June 16 at the Northwest Montana History Museum at 124 2nd Ave. East in Kalispell and costs $5 for adults while youths under 16 attend free. Daily Inter Lake

- ➤ Friends of Montana Streams + Rivers filed an appeal contesting a lower federal ruling that gave full federal authority over a partly built home on private land along McDonald Creek in Glacier National Park. Work on the nearly unfinished house has stalled as the appeal could set a precedent for how similar private properties are regulated in the park. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Starting next week, the Montana Department of Transportation and LHC Inc. will begin repaving 4 miles of U.S. 2 near Kalispell with one lane in each direction and reduced speeds, which may cause delays for those heading to Glacier Park International Airport. Temporary closures at the Rose Crossing and Birch Grove Road intersections are planned for up to five days — extra travel time is advised. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ In Kalispell, eight candidates filed for City Council with four open spots in the municipal election scheduled for Nov. 4 — filing closed on Wednesday. Incumbent Sandy Carlson faces challenger Wes Walker in Ward 1, Lisa Blank runs unopposed in Ward 2, and three candidates including former Councilor Kyle Waterman contest the Ward 3 seat while incumbent Jed Fisher is challenged in Ward 4. - ➤ Local residents gathered on Thursday at Depot Park to protest Rep. Ryan Zinke’s support for the Big Beautiful Bill that would cut Medicaid funding by over $700 billion in the next decade and leave millions uninsured. Speakers, including local business owner Franteesa Palmatier who credited Medicaid with helping her overcome hardship, shared personal accounts while protesters marched down Main Street with a petition to protect the program — a measure aimed at safeguarding essential healthcare access.
