COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from the Flathead Warming Center and Fresh Life Church cleaned up trash on the Parkline Trail in Kalispell on June 4—removing debris from foot traffic and homeless encampments. The event highlighted strong community teamwork—uniting local groups in a shared effort to improve the area.  KPAX

CRIME NEWS

  • Heather Marie Kushmaul, a 37-year-old from Coram, pleaded guilty on June 4 to methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation — she faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and at least five years of supervised release with sentencing set for Oct. 8.  Flathead Beacon
  • Heather Marie Kushmaul, 37, of Coram pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and faces a potential 10 years to life in prison, a $10 million fine, and at least five years of supervised release after controlled purchases began in May 2024 on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation — sentencing is set for October 8.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city council voted 5—4 on June 4th to halt a downtown redesign that would cut Main Street to two driving lanes, widen sidewalks, and add safety features, meaning the federal grant application will not move forward. City officials said the plan remains on the books without funding and they must seek other sources while developers await a decision on the U.S. Highway 93 bypass.  Flathead Beacon
  • Flathead County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to complete a survey about the current jail and plans for a new facility—community opinions will help shape future decisions on the county jail system.  MontanaRightNow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mach LLC is proposing a 24-unit workforce housing complex called Outpost at Kalispell on Appleway Drive near the Parkline Trail — the development will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments for households earning between 50% and 60% of the area's median income. The firm will request $8.5 million from the Montana Housing Tax Credit program with awards expected in October and has reserved three units for veterans, domestic violence victims or young people aging out of foster care.  Daily Inter Lake
