- ➤ Today, Samaritan House raised $2 million in community donations to fund the first phase of its $16.9 million expansion that will add 18 income-based apartments and enlarge its shelter facilities in Kalispell. Construction is set to begin on July 1 after environmental cleanup at the former Army Reserve Armory — the organization will continue fundraising for a building for homeless veterans. - ➤ Michael Downing pleaded not guilty to felony burglary and tampering charges at Flathead County District Court on Thursday, and Sheriff Brian Heino said his crew is linked to over 15 burglary cases causing nearly $1 million in losses — Downing was arrested on May 6 after barricading himself near Whitefish with his trial set for October 14. - ➤ Local attorneys say state environmental protections should cover private development in Glacier National Park after a California couple began building a home without a permit on land near McDonald Creek. - ➤ Montana Department of Transportation resumed work on a $30.9 million, five-lane improvement of West Reserve Drive in Kalispell with crews moving utilities and beginning concrete work on the west end and the Stillwater River bridge deck, and the project will extend into summer 2026 to improve traffic safety—addressing growing traffic and increased crash rates in the Flathead Valley.
