CULTURE NEWS

  • Flathead Valley Community College and StoryCorps will hold an event on June 2 (12:45 p.m.) in the Swank Recital Hall at Wachholz College Center to launch the StoryCorps Mobile Booth’s month-long visit. The free public event will feature speakers from StoryCorps, Montana Public Radio, and FVCC, along with a Q&A session and a tour of the recording trailer.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead Valley Community College’s Kids College registration is now open for summer week-long classes for students entering first through 12th grade (classes cover subjects including art, science and technology, language and culture, and computer game design) starting Monday, June 9 through Friday, July 18.  Daily Inter Lake

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The owners of Lazy Day Trailer Park in Columbia Falls have requested a zone change for the north half from light industrial to general business, with the Planning Commission set for a public hearing on June 12 at 6 p.m. and the City Council reviewing the request on July 7 at 7 p.m., while residents who received eviction notices on April 14 face cash incentives—$10,000 if they sign over by July 18 and $5,000 by Sept. 18.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Montana Highway of Transportation officials have started several road projects in the growing Flathead Valley and the five-lane improvement on West Reserve Drive will be completed next summer — the upgrades are set to improve traffic safety. Passenger numbers at Glacier Park International Airport increased this year and officials expect a busy summer as travel demand continues to rise.  Flathead Beacon

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public health officials confirmed on Thursday a second measles case in Flathead County in an adult who traveled outside Montana with unknown vaccination status. They identified two public exposure windows at Logan Health in Kalispell on May 23 from 2:40 to 5:30 p.m. and on May 26 from 6:40 to 9:10 p.m.—anyone present is urged to complete a self-assessment and contact a medical provider if symptoms develop.  Daily Inter Lake
  • The Flathead City-County Health Department confirmed a second measles case in a local resident who traveled outside Montana and is now isolating at home after hospitalization for the illness. Health officials said anyone who visited Logan Health at 350 Heritage Way on May 23 between 2:40 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. or at 350 Conway Drive on May 26 between 6:40 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. should check their vaccination status — further updates will be posted if more cases are found.  KPAX
  • AWARE Inc. and Western Montana Mental Health Center have merged and now operate under the AWARE name to combine mental health services for northwest Montanans. The merger will finalize in a few months and patients will see little disruption to their care—staff will have similar roles as the organizations integrate their services.  Flathead Beacon
