- ➤ Kermit (Ty) Poulson, a 46-year-old homeless man with Kalispell ties, pleaded guilty to threatening the Flathead County courthouse with Molotov cocktails in 2023 and now faces a sentencing hearing scheduled for Sept. 18. Flathead Beacon
- ➤ A homeless man with ties to Kalispell, Kermit 'Ty' Poulson, admitted on Tuesday to threatening to blow up the Flathead County courthouse, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said, and he now faces charges carrying a maximum of ten years in prison + a $250,000 fine and up to three years of supervised release. - ➤ Area student musicians ended the Western State Solo and Ensemble Festival on a high note by earning top scores on solo and ensemble performances at the state event held in Great Falls on May 2 and 3—many had advanced from the district festival. - ➤ Code Girls United announced the winners of its annual Northwest Regional App Challenge with teams from Billings, Great Falls, and Kalispell placing first, second, and third as 75 teams (grades 4 to 8) competed in a virtual contest to design apps that address community issues. - ➤ Crews clearing the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park report fewer avalanches this spring after an early March avalanche cycle cleared chutes that usually cause more slides—allowing them to focus on breaking up fallen rocks and preparing the east side for further plowing. - ➤ City Hall proposed a plan to remodel downtown roadways during a packed public hearing on May 19— the plan would reduce Main Street's lanes from four to three and widen sidewalks to improve safety after 258 crashes from 2018 to 2022, though some residents and store owners expressed concerns over traffic delays and limited parking; council members will seek a competitive federal grant with a 20% local match to fund these changes.
