North Valley Food Bank in Whitefish is hosting its FEED KIDS food drive throughout May to collect kid-friendly meals+ snacks for local children who lose school meal access during summer.

Drop-off locations include Safeway, schools, churches and the bank at 251 Flathead Ave.

Samaritan House received an $8,600 donation from First Interstate Bank and Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to support its homeless shelter and transitional living program — executive director Cassidy Kipp noted the funds cover over half its annual food budget.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau released Thursday show Kalispell added 626 residents—a 2% gain from 2024 to 2025 that keeps it among the top growing cities, plus nearby Whitefish and Columbia Falls reported smaller gains amid a national slowdown in growth.

Student musicians from area schools earned high scores at the Western State Solo and Ensemble Music Festival held May 1 and May 2 in Helena, where music specialists rated performances from superior to poor and offered feedback.
