- ➤ The North Valley Food Bank in Whitefish expanded its hours on May 12 to help meet a 20% rise in pantry visits amid federal funding cuts—new hours are Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The food bank also asked local volunteers and donors to fill extra shifts as it works to support community food access. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 11, 2025, Kalispell police discovered a murder-suicide at Silverbrook Estates in which 33-year-old Nicholas Olson-Hartley fatally shot his wife Katie Olson-Hartley+ their two young children before taking his own life. KPAX
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cassidy Kipp of the Community Action Partnership halted work on renovating the Kalispell headquarters at 1820 U.S. 93 S. when federal funds were pulled on March 6 - the grants were restored on April 29, and the nonprofit remains cautious about future cuts. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Today the Kalispell Planning Commission will review housing regulations designed to streamline residential development as part of a draft land use plan required by the Montana Land Use Planning Act—residents can choose from 14 zoning changes on a dedicated city webpage. The meeting at City Hall starts at 6 p.m.—the commission will also hear a proposal to expand the Anderson Ranch subdivision using land in a 100-year flood zone for parkland and stormwater detention. - ➤ The Montana Department of Transportation and the City of Kalispell are working on the Reserve Drive project this week and are setting up temporary traffic signals at West Reserve Drive and Whitefish Stage Road that may delay trips by 15 to 20 minutes. The project will widen the road to improve safety while access on Hutton Ranch Road remains with a 12-foot width restriction — drivers should be alert for flaggers and changing traffic patterns. KPAX
