  • Kalispell voters approved a high school levy on May 10 and Senator Steve Daines proposed expanding federal funds for public land projects to benefit local conservation efforts.   • Whitefish Community Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the Miracle League of Northwest Montana to resurface Miracle Field at Kidsports Complex in Kalispell—where the field serves about 100 athletes with disabilities. The grant is part of the foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration and will help complete the $325,000 campaign needed to update the 20-year-old field—ensuring a safe, fully accessible playing space.  Daily Inter Lake

  • Glacier Grinds, a new coffee shop that opened in mid-April in a shared space with a local farm-to-table store, serves a variety of coffee drinks made with roasted beans and seasonal flavors. Owned by Hailey and her husband John and located on East Idaho Street, the shop operates on weekday and weekend hours and plans to add a food truck and host weekly farmers markets this summer — expanding its local offerings.  Daily Inter Lake

  • Kalispell mother Sierra Zemke was inspired by watching her children play in a park to write her first novel, 'Mommy Minds,' about the challenges and joys of motherhood. EDUCATION NEWS

  • After voters approved a $2.9 million high school levy on May 9, Kalispell Public Schools Superintendent Matt Jensen said the funding kept 21 teachers and more than 100 courses in place. School officials said strong voter turnout from an education campaign and support from the Chamber of Commerce—with this backing, safe class sizes and ongoing academic programs are secure.  Flathead Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cuts to AmeriCorps funding forced local groups, like Land to Hand in Columbia Falls, to let go of staff and leave communities worried about food access and other services. Leaders are now raising funds — with a campaign aiming to reach $38,000 and over $17,000 contributed so far — to cover the gap left by the federal cuts.  Daily Inter Lake

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • At the May 8 Chamber of Commerce Growth Summit, SHOP Companies revealed a mockup showing that the Kalispell Center Mall area will be redesigned with spaces for events—like music shows—along with a future library, hotel, new shops, and park areas along the Parkline Trail. Developers plan to work quickly to add ideas like a national grocery and outdoor sculpture garden while keeping parts of the old mall for continuity.  Daily Inter Lake
