  • Glacier visitors can drive to Avalanche Campground starting Saturday, May 10 — in time for Mother’s Day weekend, the park said. The crew is still clearing snow farther up the road and the Apgar Visitor Center will open daily for travelers.  Daily Inter Lake
  • On May 8th, board members at Explore Whitefish selected Zak Anderson as the new executive director of the nonprofit tourism organization—he will guide efforts to expand community partnerships and sustainable tourism initiatives. CRIME NEWS

  • Douglas Trent Zellers, 29, a Whitefish man, was convicted of misdemeanor assault from an Aug. 20, 2023 burglary in Kalispell—his separate felony assault charge from a New Year's Day incident was dismissed by the judge.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Kalispell police — with help from Flathead County Sheriff's Office — responded at about 4 a.m. Thursday to a parking lot near Seventh Avenue EN and East Idaho Street after a man was shot in the arm; he was treated at Logan Health for non-life-threatening injuries and officers are seeking the suspect.  KPAX
  • Kalispell police investigated a shooting on May 8 near 7th Ave EN and E. Idaho St where officers found a man shot in the arm and he was treated at Logan Health ER — the assailant fled before officers arrived.  MontanaRightNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead Valley Community College will hold its 57th commencement on May 16 at Wachholz College Center’s McClaren Hall on its Kalispell campus to celebrate 314 graduates earning 338 degrees and certificates. A nursing pinning ceremony for 11 graduates will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Arts and Technology Building Room 139.  Daily Inter Lake

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kalispell City Council reviewed its proposed fiscal year 2026 budget this week and debated spending on councilor pay, affordable housing, and public works projects including water meter replacements and playground improvements — the $182.2 million plan adds about $1.5 million over last year’s spending. City Manager Doug Russell presented plans to use federal funds for housing and water projects while members questioned items like a $10,000 upgrade for council chairs.  Daily Inter Lake
