  • Emergency responders in Flathead County located a missing person 14 miles from his disappearance near Star Meadows Ranch after he went missing Friday afternoon and was found Saturday morning with mild hypothermia from being inadequately dressed—he is now reported to be otherwise okay.  MontanaRightNow

  • Cherry trees at Buena Vista Orchard in Bigfork showed thousands of buds last week after nearly all blossoms were lost in 2024 due to a harsh freeze. Local growers expect a strong crop if mild spring weather continues, with harvest plans set for later this summer — a hopeful turnaround for local cherry production.  Daily Inter Lake

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cherry trees bloom along the east shore of Flathead Lake at Finley Point, marking a clear return after last year's deep freeze. Owner Brian Campbell said the blossoms will last 5 to 10 days — the bright bloom points to a potential crop of about 3 million pounds with the first cherries coming in mid-July.  KPAX

  • Flathead County commissioners unanimously selected Martel Construction as the construction manager for plans to design a potential new jail on April 29—preconstruction services will include design, cost estimating, and scheduling.   • Federal funding cuts led to layoffs and reduced services on the Blackfeet Nation as local groups struggled to support domestic violence survivors—officials report that losing DOJ funds threatens essential help like transportation and legal aid.
