CRIME NEWS

  • Christopher Richard Deskus, 58, barricaded himself in a hotel room near Glacier Park International Airport on April 7 during a mental health crisis and now faces felony criminal endangerment and a charge for obstructing a peace officer (with bail set at $190,000) in Flathead County District Court today after his fiancée requested a welfare check.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 23, a bipartisan bloc of 43 lawmakers passed the STARS Act that will direct $100 million to raise starting teacher pay in Montana’s K-12 schools— the bill now goes to Governor Gianforte for his signature.  Flathead Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Gianforte visited Kalispell on Wednesday to meet with small business owners at Rancher's Daughter where he discussed legislative priorities such as permanent property and income tax relief and a fiscally conservative budget. He signed Bobby's Law to strengthen DUI penalties — a measure he said fulfills voter mandates — and noted that House Bill 252 directs $100 million to raise starting teacher pay.  KPAX
  • Governor Gianforte held a roundtable in Kalispell today to discuss plans that will ease financial burdens on local businesses as the legislative session nears its end. He outlined measures to lower taxes, limit government spending and reform the judicial system—while noting that the STARS Act adds over $100 million to raise teacher salaries.  MontanaRightNow
  • Kalispell City Council voted on Monday to amend two ordinances that define junk vehicles and address community decay on private property.
