EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kalispell Middle School health instructors say budget cuts have reduced health class from 180 to 90 days, making it harder to cover the full curriculum and support students. They shared concerns at a recent board meeting and warn more cuts may come if the spring levy fails.  Flathead Beacon
  • Jeremiah Shinn, interim president at Boise State, was selected by the Montana Board of Regents to become the University of Montana’s 20th president; he will assume the role on July 1 in Missoula when his contract runs through June 30, 2029 with an annual salary of $467,197 (including deferred compensation).  Flathead Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Flathead County Weed/Parks and Recreation Board voted unanimously on April 6 against renewing the Sliter Park lease in Bigfork along the Swan River; commissioners must decide by the end of June before the lease expires on July 31 amid staffing and budget concerns.  Daily Inter Lake

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An investment group and an affordable housing nonprofit plan to renovate three rental complexes in Kalispell that host 116 low-income homes. Renovations include roof work, siding, windows, appliances, lighting and major mechanical upgrades following a Tuesday public hearing in council chambers & aim to preserve affordability with USDA Rural Development support.  Flathead Beacon
