CRIME NEWS

  • A Whitefish woman 28 year old Mia Yvette Webber, who is suffering an apparent mental health crisis, was charged with felony assault with a weapon after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a knife on April 1, cutting his arm and drawing blood — she remains in jail with bail set at $75,000 and will appear in court on April 17.  Daily Inter Lake

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Reed’s Slough Wildlife Viewing Area opened in Kalispell at the corner of Manning and North Somers Road—built with support from local families' conservation easements and state agencies—it now offers educational visits and birdwatching with 130 bird species observed. The project started construction in spring 2024 and celebrates a strong local partnership.  KPAX
  • Flathead Lakers received a $42,750 DNRC grant on April 12th to start a project that will use state data to contact out-of-state boaters from waters with mussel infestations—analysts will review five years of visitor data to identify high-risk users and offer them incentives to follow Montana’s Clean, Drain, Dry guidelines while the nonprofit awaits additional records to begin outreach this spring or next season.  Flathead Beacon

  • Federal officials halted the Gunsight Lake bull trout project at Glacier National Park after two conservation nonprofits sued over missing review details — documents filed on April 9 showed the rainbow trout removal was completed while plans to restock native trout have not started.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Kalispell City Council plans to apply for a $25 million federal grant to redesign Main Street and First Avenue East and West—adding safety improvements like reduced traffic lanes and wider sidewalks.
