CULTURE NEWS

  • Columbia Falls quilter Therese Stempin, 80, began sewing with a small Necchi machine given as a Christmas gift in 1952 and taught herself to make clothes and quilts throughout her life. She will be honored as Quilter of the Year by the Teakettle Quilt Guild at the 25th anniversary Quilt Show on April 12 at Glacier Gateway Elementary—admission is free and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kalispell high school students are canvassing neighborhoods to urge support for a $2.9 million high school levy vote on May 6. The levy has not passed since 2007 — if it fails, 21 full-time positions and popular programs will be cut.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council meets at 7 p.m. today at City Hall (201 First Ave. E) to vote on a state grant to build a shared-use path along the east side of U.S. 93 from Wyoming Street to Mission Street. The project costs about $2.68 million and the grant is estimated to cover $648,000 as work later extends north to improve safety for walkers and bikers.  Daily Inter Lake
