- ➤ Kaleb Fleck was sentenced on April 1st to 50 years in prison with 10 years suspended for beating and killing 60-year-old Scott Bryan at a gas station early Sunday, June 25th — authorities charged 18-year-old Wiley Meeker along with Fleck with deliberate homicide. MontanaRightNow
- ➤ A Flathead County jury heard witness testimony on April 1 in the trial of 39-year-old Derrick James Jackson, who is accused of killing his mother and her partner at a Bigfork residence in 2022—Jackson pleaded not guilty, claimed self-defense in a jail video statement, and also faces charges of tampering with or fabricating evidence and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. - ➤ Whitefish High School students run a microgreen business called 4th and Pine that grew from a regenerative agriculture class at the Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship; they grow and sell radish microgreens to local businesses. - ➤ On April 1, the House Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 896 that makes it illegal to harbor people with unknown immigration status — the bill now will move to the House Floor for a second reading. - ➤ Montana lawmakers are considering a bill to restore local school immunization data that was halted by a 2021 law—experts say the current 86% vaccination rate among toddlers is far below the 95% needed to prevent measles outbreaks.
