CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bigfork community will hold its annual Good Friday service on April 3 at 4 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, where seven churches continue a tradition dating back to 1965 that promotes unity through reflections and music. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead County third-graders take part in the immersive McClaren 1895 classroom at the Northwest Montana History Museum today, where teacher volunteers guide two 3-hour sessions that recreate 1895 school traditions (including strict rules and period dress).  Daily Inter Lake
  • Glacier High School’s French program earned an Exemplary with Distinction Award from the American Association of Teachers of French Tuesday — it is one of only four schools nationwide to receive the honor and the only public institution recognized.  MontanaRightNow
  • The 88th Annual Cherry Growers meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at Yellow Bay Community Clubhouse on Montana 35. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flathead National Forest is planning controlled burns on over 600 acres this spring to reduce wildfire risk, with prescribed fires scheduled at 11 locations including Swan Valley, Spotted Bear Mountain, and areas near Whitefish and Hungry Horse — paired with teams of 15 to 60 firefighters.  KPAX
  • Flathead Land Trust secured a 60-acre conservation easement north of Echo Lake to protect local wildlife by barring future development plus the property, bordering state forestland and the foothills near Jewel Basin, now serves as a refuge for deer, moose and grizzly bears.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks plans to treat a 4.5-mile stretch of McGinnis Creek beginning Aug. 31 to remove nonnative fish and clear the way for native westslope cutthroat trout reintroduction. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Around 30 residents attended the first Town Hall Conversations Monday night, meeting Mayor Ryan Hunter, City Manager Jarod Nygren and council members to discuss city growth, traffic and local issues. City leaders plan to host future meetings on the last Monday of each month—offering a relaxed space for open dialogue.  KPAX
