ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rare Anna’s hummingbird stayed in a Bigfork backyard for six months as Michell De Leon Tyler kept heated feeders and shelter in place; she found it gone on March 1 — a sign that the species is increasingly overwintering in the area.  Daily Inter Lake

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Gianforte honored Laura Gardner of Job Service Kalispell last week for her over 40 years of service to workforce development in our community, awarding her recognition with a Montana flag flown over the Capitol.   • Citizens for a Better Flathead is suing county officials in Flathead County District Court over a retroactive permit issued for 776 Beach Lane (near Lion Mountain in Beaver Bay) after a May 2024 landslide damaged the lakeshore. The suit claims the permit violates state protection rules and denies public review.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Kalispell officials reviewed plans to repurpose Woodland Park pond following several winters of unsafe skating as Fish, Wildlife and Parks proposed turning the shallow water into a family fishing spot — a project that would require dredging and public safety signs.  Daily Inter Lake
