COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flathead Electric Cooperative will host its annual meeting and energy expo on Thursday, April 16 at the Wachholz College Center at Flathead Valley Community College; the event begins with interactive exhibits at 3:30 p.m. and a business meeting at 5:30 p.m. featuring free dinner, giveaways & three $500 electric bill credits for members.  Daily Inter Lake

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flathead National Forest is planning controlled burns this spring — from March through June — in several areas such as Cold Jim in Swan Valley and near Olney to reduce wildfire risks.  Daily Inter Lake

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Department of Transportation and Frontier West will begin repair work on the Kootenai River Bridge along US 2 (half a mile NW of Troy) with preliminary work starting late March. Signalized single-lane traffic will be maintained during scheduled nighttime closures planned from late April to early May.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Crews from MDT and Sletten Construction will pave the approaches to Sportsman's Bridge on Highway 82 today, shifting traffic to one lane with temporary lights and flaggers in Bigfork. Drivers may face delays up to 15 minutes (follow flagger instructions) as speed limits drop to 25 mph.  KPAX
  • Flathead County Library trustees are renegotiating a property purchase at the Kalispell Center Mall for a future branch by drafting a new letter of intent with revised pricing and timeline provisions. They are also planning design meetings with architects to further outline project plans.  Daily Inter Lake

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flathead High School student Katelyn Baughman was diagnosed with Danon disease after severe heart symptoms during finals week and was admitted for intensive care before being airlifted to Salt Lake City. She now awaits a heart transplant, staying near the hospital at Ronald McDonald House & attending weekly check-ups.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Logan Health in Kalispell has partnered with the American Cancer Society for the third year to secure a $15,000 grant that helps cover transportation costs (including gas cards, ride-shares, cab vouchers, and non-emergency medical transport) so cancer patients from rural areas can get treatment. The facility will track rides provided.  KPAX
