  • Marie Trodick celebrated her 100th birthday at the North Valley Senior Center on a snowy day with over 100 family and friends gathered to honor her milestone.   • Today, DREAM Adaptive Recreation kicks off its sixth annual Shred Fest at Whitefish Mountain Resort to raise $85,000 for programs that make outdoor activities accessible for people with disabilities—participants will join vertical challenges, adventure courses and a scavenger hunt. Executive Director Julie Tickle said the event brings the community together to support and break down barriers for outdoor recreation.  KPAX

CRIME NEWS

  • A Kalispell man, Malakai Steven Long, faces a felony aggravated assault charge after he allegedly strangled his wife for 45 seconds and threatened her with a knife, and he pleaded not guilty on March 13 before Judge Paul Sullivan in Flathead County District Court — an omnibus hearing will be held on Aug. 20 and a pretrial conference will follow on Sept. 17.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Whitefish Station agents arrested Juan Angel Carranza-Guzman—an illegal alien and aggravated felon from Mexico—during targeted enforcement operations; he is wanted in Bozeman for contempt of court, has prior felony convictions including battery with a deadly weapon and illegal reentry, and will be processed for removal from the country.  MontanaRightNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 21, the Montana Senate advanced Senate Bill 307 — a measure shifting nearly $63 million in marijuana tax revenue from wildlife habitat, state parks and youth suicide prevention programs to fund law enforcement and substance use disorder treatment — amid debates on conservation and public safety. HEALTH NEWS

  • Flathead County’s Asthma Program provided free home visits and education for residents with uncontrolled asthma by having nurses assess homes for triggers and teach proper inhaler use—offering air filters and allergen-proof covers as needed; the program remains funded by a public health grant through June 30.  Flathead Beacon
  • Logan Health Children’s is planning a new pediatric infusion center named the Rita Fitzsimmons Pediatric Infusion Center—funded by a $500,000 gift from Michael Kozlowski in honor of his mother and a $105,000 contribution from the Kalispell Rotary Club—that will provide a specialized space for children receiving infusion treatments; the project is part of a broader effort to enhance care for young patients.  Daily Inter Lake
