COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Edgerton Elementary third graders organized a schoolwide coin drive to benefit the Humane Society of Northwest Montana after reading about how kids help their communities. The drive raised $533.44 over five days and students presented a handmade oversized check with two adoptable puppies — Pluto and Hades — during an event on March 11th.  Daily Inter Lake

CRIME NEWS

  • Flathead Valley contractor Nathaniel Gevern Lewis—who allegedly defrauded customers by taking large upfront payments and then failing to complete work—agreed to pay $200,000 as part of an agreement set on March 12, though his deal still awaits a district judge’s signature and he may continue operating.  Daily Inter Lake
  • The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in Coram on March 13, 2025, rescuing 27 live dogs from unsanitary conditions—one puppy was found deceased and all animals are now at the County Animal Shelter for care.  KPAX
  • Samuel Walter Rauser, 33, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, second offense, in court on April 4, 2024 after leaving his truck in a highway intersection on January 13, 2024 to go into a casino—he received a one-year jail sentence with all but five days suspended, must complete a chemical dependency evaluation, and pay $1,200 in fines.  Daily Inter Lake

CULTURE NEWS

  • Melissa Bloom, owner of The Sister’s Bloom (an eco-friendly stop-motion animation studio), built her business in Kalispell after moving from California to create animated films without using toxic materials. Today, she works on a short film about regenerative farming and partners with local companies (including Alpine Greenhouses) as she expands the studio’s live production areas.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead Childcare has opened new centers in Whitefish and Columbia Falls to meet local childcare needs after rebranding in January—offering care and meals for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Owner Mishael Jelley said the expansion will provide safe, nurturing spaces for local families.  Daily Inter Lake

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 12, twenty in-person and 23 virtual federal workers met at Labor and Industry offices across Montana to get help following federal layoffs. The Kalispell session had few attendees—questions focused on how to file unemployment and the future of reinstated jobs while a federal lawsuit decision is expected by April 18.  Daily Inter Lake
