ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Avalanche forecasters warned that heavy storm conditions will continue to create dangerous slide risks on slopes around Whitefish and Glacier National Park through Sunday — weak two-to-three-foot snowpack layers may trigger slides from even light loads.  Daily Inter Lake

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The historic Izaak Walton Inn—renamed LOGE Glacier—is closing by March 1 due to financial troubles at its parent company, leaving Essex without its cherished gathering place and employees facing job loss. Staff have launched a GoFundMe for moving costs.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flathead High principal Michele Paine and former Fair-Mont-Egan superintendent Brandy Carlenzoni are finalists to lead Whitefish School District after Dave Means announced his retirement. The candidates will interview and meet community members on March 4 and 5, with a final decision planned on March 5.  Flathead Beacon
  • Flathead High's principal and a former Fair-Mont-Egan superintendent are finalists for the Whitefish School District role as Superintendent Dave Means retires at the school year's end. Final interviews on March 4 & 5 will guide the board's decision.  Daily Inter Lake
  • The Cayuse Prairie School board approved a $300,000 levy pitch to maintain programs, support a 4% teacher adjustment, and add staff. Meetings will be held at the school on Mar. 11, Apr. 9, and Apr. 17, with ballots mailed Apr. 17 and due May 5.  Flathead Beacon
  • The Whitefish School District Board will interview three superintendent candidates on March 4 and March 5 in Kalispell to replace retiring Dave Means. Stakeholders can meet the candidates before the board makes its final decision on March 5.  KPAX

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Forest Service is updating the Flathead River management plan and held two sessions at Flathead Valley Community College; community comments will be accepted through March 13 — a draft is expected this summer.  KPAX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Glacier National Park is set to remove advanced entrance reservations this summer and will use real-time traffic controls (parking limits and shuttle systems) to manage visitor access. The National Park Service announced extra measures may be added if congestion rises.  MontanaRightNow
