COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks & Flathead Audubon Society host the Great Backyard Bird Count at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center in Kalispell on Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include birding lessons, guided hikes, and crafts while participants count birds and build community science data.  Daily Inter Lake

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eric Robbins, a Kalispell resident since 2014, recently appeared on Wheel of Fortune after losing 100 pounds following a life-changing health scare (which pushed him to chase his dreams). The episode aired Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on MTN, marking a proud moment for the local community.  KPAX

ECONOMY NEWS

  • International visitor spending in Kalispell dropped 31% in 2025 with a 36% cut in Canadian transactions, while domestic spending slightly grew to $226 million. Glacier Park International Airport will limit operations during a runway overhaul (July 6 to July 31) and Discover Kalispell will offer travel alternatives for visitors.  Daily Inter Lake

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kalispell Public Schools will ask voters on May 5 to approve a $1.6 million elementary general fund levy to cover a projected budget shortfall. Final revenue numbers will be released on March 1 and the board will meet on March 10 to decide the levy amount.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Kalispell Public Schools Board of Trustees approved a contract with Talos Security on Jan. 13 (private guards will patrol school grounds for the rest of the school year) to supplement the KPD School Resource Officer program and enhance safety.  Daily Inter Lake
  • School officials and teachers resolved a dispute over pay for the new WIN course at Kalispell Middle School by approving a memorandum that offers a one-time lump sum payment for work done from August to January (the course focuses on independent learning and outdoor activity).  Flathead Beacon
  • Flathead High School's magazine The Quiver (revived in 2023) was named an excellent literary arts magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English. The award recognizes the school's showcase of over 40 student entries in a contest open to middle, high, and college submissions.  Daily Inter Lake
  • Whitefish high school’s speech and debate team edged out Columbia Falls on Jan. 23-24 with a score of 224 to 222—securing five event divisional championships and setting them up for the Class A state tournament happening today in Corvallell.  Daily Inter Lake

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connie Lane and Flathead Land Trust finalized a 105-acre conservation easement on Jan. 28 to protect wildlife habitat near Glacier National Park. The property on Teakettle Mountain (featuring forests, wetlands, and a key river ecosystem) will stay preserved under strict limits.  Daily Inter Lake
