EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flathead Valley high school speech and debate teams dominated a weekend tournament in Columbia Falls; Columbia Falls High School won first with 265 points while Whitefish and Bigfork placed. Bigfork High will host the next tournament on Jan. 17, with volunteer judge training today at 3:30 p.m. in the library. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Glacier High's speech and debate team won a close competition in Helena last weekend by edging Flathead by five points, and they are set to host the Class AA state tournament beginning Jan. 31 in Butte; volunteer judges can register (training is provided online). Daily Inter Lake
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln County law enforcement is mourning Undersheriff John Hyslop, who died Jan. 8 at his home in Libby; he began his career with the sheriff's office in 2013 and grew to serve as a pivotal field training officer and K9 handler, with obituary details pending. Daily Inter Lake
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Logan Health primary care providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician's assistants, will vote to unionize with the Union of American Physicians and Dentists today and tomorrow at on-site clinics.
