CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sixty community members held a candlelight vigil at Depot Park & walked Main Street on Thursday to call for justice for Renee Good, who was shot in Minneapolis on Jan. 7. Daily Inter Lake
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local photographer Tony Gangemi encountered a rare leucistic loon while kayaking near a lake this spring, spending over 300 hours capturing its uncommon traits. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks banded the bird, which is expected to return in three to four years, and Gangemi will wait patiently for its reappearance. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ Flathead Lake is unusually high from December's record rain; Brian Lipscomb (Energy Keepers) said that federal partners held the Columbia River safe while lowering the lake for spring runoff. The lake will drop to its seasonal low by late March. Daily Inter Lake
- ➤ The Flathead National Forest approved 366 acres for the Blacktail Powerline Corridor Project on Blacktail Mountain — the project will thin trees to lower wildfire risk for communities, property, and critical infrastructure. Work is set to begin in 2026. KPAX
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Flathead County recorded 522 flu cases, 18 hospitalizations, and one death by Dec. 27 with most cases due to Influenza A; hospital admissions spiked around Christmas with Logan Health reporting 70% more cases in December than last year + health officials recommend vaccination to ease symptoms. - ➤ Turner Mountain will open Saturday with only the top half available for skiing as the first chair lift starts at 9:30 a.m. and the last runs at 3:30 p.m. The county is set to assist with plowing the 12-mile access road. Daily Inter Lake
