- ➤ Whitefish School District seeks City Council approval today to expand the high school with a two-story academic addition on its west side and new career and technical classrooms on its southeast corner (costing $26.5 million for academics and $6.1 million for athletics). - ➤ Flathead High School senior Elijah Williams has led community-building activities as student body president by mentoring younger students and coordinating events like homecoming week (nominated for the Winslow Nichols Leadership Award). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Flathead National Forest will thin forests along a 40-mile stretch of U.S. 2 in fall 2026 as part of the Granite Moccasin Project, which covers 67,536 acres between West Glacier and Summit. - ➤ Flathead County has seen record overdose-related EMS calls with 154 suspected overdoses recorded as of September, and officials cite potent opioids (mixed with other drugs) as a rising threat.
